Pumpkin Buttercup is faster maturing and more compact growing than most pumpkins. Buttercup has a sweet, nutty flavour and a dry, satiny texture that makes it a winner for oven roasting. Traditionally used to brighten up a roast meal, roasted Buttercup is also stunning in a salad, and makes delicious hearty, creamy soups, pasta, pies and breads.
For early sowing, raise in pots of Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix in a well-lit, protected spot. Transplant after 3-4 weeks. For direct sowing, press 3-4 seeds into mounds of moist soil 1m apart. Later thin to the two strongest plants. When vines are carrying plenty of flowers, pinch off ends to contain growth. Harvest as the vine dies off, and the stalk turns brown. Provide growing plants with plenty of water at root level. Poor fruiting is usually caused by heat and/or water stress, particularly when young. Germination 6 - 10 days | Maturity 14 weeks
