Poppy Flanders Red is a beautiful rich, red papery bloom, that inspired the WW1 poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ by Lt. Col. John McCrae. Used ever since as the flower of remembrance for war dead, and as the emblem of ANZAC Day. An exquisite massed display, flowering over a long period.
Sow direct where they are to grow as these plants do not transplant well. Scatter seed thinly over soil and barely cover with Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix. Firm down and water with a fine mist spray. Thin crowded seedlings after germination.
Choose a well drained position in full sun but sheltered from the wind. Pinch out early buds until the plants have formed good clumps. Remove spent flowers to promote further blooming. Water at base of plant to avoid disease.
