Watermelon Country Sweet is a high yielding, disease tolerant variety that produces round medium-sized fruit, with pretty deep red flesh and distinctive green tiger-striped skin. A high sugar content gives the luscious, juicy flesh an extra-sweet taste that makes a refreshing late Summer treat. Try it in salads, paired with salty feta cheese - delicious!
For early sowing, raise in pots of Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix in a well-lit, protected spot. Transplant after 3-4 weeks. For direct sowing press 3-4 seeds into raised mounds of moist soil 1.5m apart. Later thin to the two strongest plants.
Select a Sunny, well-drained position with plenty of space to grow. Keep well watered until fruit starts to ripen, then reduce watering to sweeten before picking. Harvest when underside turns yellow and the fruit gives a dull, hollow sound when tapped. Great companion plant for corn. To reduce the risk of disease keep leaves dry by watering at the base of plant or in the mornings. Germination 6 - 10 days | Maturity 14 - 16 weeks
