Feijoas are a classic Kiwi favourite and fill many fruit bowls during the autumn months. Their unique, tart flavour is a great addition to desserts, baking and preserves, though we love them most straight from the tree.

There are many different varieties of feijoas, ranging from small and smooth, to large and juicy. Learn more about several popular varieties below:

Feijoa Mammoth

Feijoa Mammoth

A medium sized fruit with smooth green skin with red dots. This variety has a sweet aromatic flavour, slightly gritty texture and soft and juicy pulp.

Habit: Upright and spreading habit

Size: 4m x 4m

Pollination: Although classed as self-infertile, pollination is by larger birds such as thrushes and blackbirds. These birds tend to travel some distance to get food and therefore pollination in the home garden is generally not an issue with one plant.

Harvest: May/June

Feijoa Triumph

Feijoa Triumph

A medium sized fruit with rough skin. Mildly aromatic flavour with slightly gritty, soft and juicy pulp.

Habit: Upright and vigorous shoot growth habit

Size: 4m x 4m

Pollination: Same situation as the Mammoth variety. Although classed as self-infertile, pollination is by larger birds such as thrushes and blackbirds. These birds tend to travel some distance to get food and therefore pollination in the home garden is generally not an issue with one plant.

Harvest: June
