Vertical Strawberry Tube Planter
Ordinary PVC pipes can be used for growing tons of strawberry plants in a small space. When you lack an appropriate garden space or yard, a vertical gardening idea like this can be tried. All you need for this DIY idea is a few PVC pipes, a drilling machine, and of course, some gardening essentials. Just keep in mind that vertical units require careful watering.
Hanging Basket
Growing strawberries in hanging baskets is possible and easy enough. An average-sized basket can fit a few strawberry plants. So, all you have to do is fill it up with the right rich potting soil and water regularly. That’s it!
Strawberry Tower
A strawberry tower is a super space saving planter, perfect for small gardens. This one does take a little longer to set up, because it has a reservoir (read: upside down water bottle with the bottom cut off) in each stacked pot. Essentially each pot, buckets work well too, needs to have around a dozen holes drilled around it for the strawberry plants to pop out of. Continue the 
process of filling up the pot with soil and strawberries until you get near the top. Add some rocks or pebbles to the top of the pot to hold in the soil. We recommend that you only stack a couple of pots together, as this method of strawberry container planting doesn’t have a central support stake, however this allows you to move around your strawberry tower if need be.
Hanging Strawberry Planters
Growing strawberries up in the air in hanging containers is a simple and easy way to grow a lot of plants in little to no space. Choose some big tin cans as a planter, also some cool color paint, this also makes for a great activity for the kids. If you’re not going to add some drainage holes to the bottom, pop some pebbles or rocks in to the can first.
Strawberry Gutter Garden
Strawberries are super easy fruits to grow in gutters; it also saves them from diseases like crown rot and fruit rot. This planting idea also allows you to affix them to a wall, taking up zero ground space!
Gumboots
Yes you read that right, your trusty old gumboots can be used to plant strawberries. Exuding a cool art deco vibe, this is a great idea to add some colour and pizzazz to your patio or balcony. Perforate the sole to allow drainage, and cut some holes for the plants in the bootlegs. Add a layer of pebbles or stones first, fill with soil and pop in your plants so they poke through the pre-cut holes.
Pallet Planter
If you have old pallets lying around, you can easily transform these into a vertical planter. If required, apply back and sides to your pallet with wood, coreflute or landscape fabric. With the pallet lying horizontally add in soil, you can also apply a weed mat or plastic to the front of the planter to prevent soil fallout and to conserve water. For extra stability it is advised that you add a frame to your pallet so that it is freestanding. After you have planted your strawberries it is advised to leave your pallet lying flat for several weeks to allow your strawberries to settle in.
A Wheelbarrow
The epitome of a portable garden, an old wheelbarrow makes for a perfect strawberry planter. It can also serve as a great DIY project if your wheelbarrow is looking a little worse for wear. Make sure to line the bottom of your wheelbarrow if it has large holes, small ones are perfectly fine as they will allow drainage. This rolling planter can be moved around, depending on whether the plants need shade or sun on any given day.
